A TBI, or traumatic brain injury, is a dangerous post-accident condition.

Recognizing the Hidden Signs of a Traumatic Brain Injury for Brain Injury Awareness Month

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month, a perfect time to shed light on injuries that are often invisible to the naked eye but can change the course and quality of a person's life in an instant. Traumatic brain injuries (often called TBIs) usually happen unexpectedly, most commonly resulting from the impact experienced during a severe motor vehicle accident or sudden, traumatic falls and other accidents. Because the effects of a head injury aren't always immediately obvious like a visibly broken bone or a large cut, it’s important for accident victims and their loved ones to know exactly what to watch for in the days and weeks following a traumatic event.

If you, a friend, or a loved one has recently been in a car wreck or experienced a severe fall, it’s very important to monitor them for any unusual physical, cognitive, or emotional changes. The signs of a brain injury can range from subtle to severe and life-threatening.

TBI symptoms may include:

  • Persistent headaches or neck pain that won't go away

  • Nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or a loss of balance

  • Ongoing confusion, difficulty remembering things, or trouble concentrating

  • Sudden mood changes, increased irritability, or feeling unusually anxious or depressed

  • Changes in sleep patterns, such as sleeping much more or less than usual, or extreme fatigue

  • Sensitivity to light or sound, blurred vision, or ringing in the ears

Your health should always be the absolute priority, so seeking immediate medical attention is the critical first step if you notice any of these symptoms. However, if a brain injury was caused in a car wreck or because of someone else’s negligence, you don’t have to take on the financial, physical, and emotional burden by yourself. A traumatic brain injury can impact the rest of your life and should be treated as a potential life-long issue, even if you seem back to normal in the months after your injury occurred.

At Locke Henry Law, we’ve helped numerous accident victims connect with top-tier brain injury specialists and have helped clients secure compensation for future treatment should they ever need it. Our goal as an injury law firm is to ensure our TBI clients get the care and one-on-one attention they need now and may need in the future. If you’ve been in an accident and are experiencing TBI symptoms, please seek medical attention immediately. If you’d like to explore what options are available to you legally call Locke Henry Law. Your case review is always free.
